When India's biggest tech bets converge on a single category, that's the signal.

In August 2024, Zomato spent ₹2,048 crore acquiring Paytm Insider — a ~7× revenue multiple. Three months later it relaunched the entire vertical as District. By February 2025 it rebranded the parent company entirely as Eternal, with going-out as one of four core pillars.

Swiggy followed within weeks, launching its own out-of-home product. Both companies are openly absorbing nine-figure losses to win this category.
